Porsche Carrera GT Engine
10 cylinder (68 degree V10) 40 valve 5.7litre engine revs to
8,400 rpm
and produces 612 bhp at 8,000 rpm, and 435 lb ft of torque at 5,750 rpm.
The key technical features of the fabulous V10 are
that air flows in via an Aluminium twin-flow resonance intake manifold, and then through 10 inlet valves controlled by VarioCamŽ variable valve control.
Electronic engine management (2x Motronic ME7.1.1) controls the whole system, and On-board diagnostics are fitted to monitor the emission control system. The 68 degree V10 is water cooled and naturally aspirated, and thanks to its small diameter PCCC clutch system can sit very low in the middle of the car's chassis to produce a very low centre of gravity, ideally placed at the mid point of the car for perfect weight distribution.
The technology also enables the engine to produce over 100 bhp per litre
which is a pretty rare achievement on any non-turbo car, but almost
unique on an engine of this scale. And to achieve this without
making a big, top heavy lump of an engine is a testament to the
ingenuity of the Porsche engineers.
Despite its big powerful engine, the car weighs just
1,380kg, so performance is rapid.
To put that performance in perspective, it's about 10% heavier than a
Boxster S,
with well over twice as much power. Twice the power of a
Boxster S and 85bhp on top of that in fact, so despite its slightly
greater mass, the power to weight ratio of 438 bhp per tonne is more
than twice that of the roadster.
Porsche Carrera GT Performance Figures
Not surprisingly, 0-60 mph takes just 3.8 seconds (and
0-62 takes 3.9 seconds).
The Carrera GT's top speed is 205mph (330km/h) and 0-124mph takes only
9.9 secs.
Quarter mile time for the car is 11.4 seconds.

This shot shows how wide and low the car is at 1,921mm
wide and 1,116mm high.
Compare this to the mid engine Boxster Roadster which is 1780mm wide by
1290 high.
The Carrera GT is 4,613 mm long, which again is slightly longer than a
Boxster or 911.
This shot also shows the beautiful rear wing which
rises automatically at speed.

Wheels and Tyres
20" 12.5J alloy rear wheels are driven through a
six speed manual, transverse gearbox and PCCC (Porsche Ceramic Composite
Clutch), and are fitted with 335/30 ZR20 tyres. The 19" 9.5J
fronts get 265/35 tyres.
